Link to a post by Margaret
Margaret has written a beautiful essay on another blog explaining what it means to be a Latter-day Saint. Her essay is a wonderful mini-autobiography and should become a classic in our own family, I hope for generations to come. You and Margaret will be receiving an e-mail I sent to my young friend in Iran, to whom I forwarded a link to this article. Monir is a treasure, just like the two of you.
Don't you just love your wife? I loved reading that. Mom is so beautifully brilliant.
As are her daughters. (Her sons are brilliant too, but I'm trying to come up with an alliterative description for them: "wonderfully wacky"? "wildly winsome"? "weirdly wondrous"? I'll keep working on it.)
Later, when Dad’s pancreas failed, it was Bobby who blessed him. That’s the Mormon circle.
What an emotion-provoking observation. This reminds me of what it was like to be present during my father's blessings when he was struggling through cancer. Excellent writing. I needed these reminders today.
It's been fun seeing the responses of many who have read Margaret's blog essay. Besides the responses here, you can look at the comments following her essay.
Also try doing a Google search with "to the pastor" and "margaret young," and you'll find others elsewhere in the blog world have commented. The most interesting case, I think, is "Evangelicals for Mitt," which recently posted a link to Margaret's essay.

That was beautiful! After the PBS doc, some things made me wonder why we do some of the things we do, so mom's blog was truly a breath of fresh air. Oh, and I'm not at all surprised that she ended the post talking about her funeral--sheesh mom!
I really wanted to go into detail about how I would die and what my tombstone would say, but it just didn't fit.

Margaret -- that was a wonderful article. I plan on sending it to my whole family. It was great to be able to read your comments and Bruce's. I was one of the many who enjoyed an English class taught by you and your husband jointly at BYU, back in... 1989? Thanks for sharing.

Margaret... I couldn't help but read the entire essay to my Gospel Doctrine class this past Sunday as a closing to my lesson. Afterward, someone took my notes to the library and made 30 copies that disappeared in seconds. I believe your words will become an "LDS Classic" to be included (for better or worse) in LDS email chains for YEARS! Thank you for your incredible, eloquent words! Steve Sluder
