Plans (or Prolegomena, if I have to be fancy)

OK, we've got a correct answer to the question posed in my previous post. But who, you may ask, is Levinas? (More on that later. For an online introduction, click here.)

My wife has suggested that I use this blog to jot down some of my ideas, which I often talk about but rarely get around to writing up. So--very soon--I'll start doing that. Two topics I'd like to tackle are these:

(1) Groundhog Day and the Ring of Gyges

(2) Why ritual?

I bet you can't wait to find out what the heck I'm talking about.

You're right. I can't wait. So why ritual? And is ritual enough? Do we need our rituals to be sealed with government approval (marriage certificates etc.)?

I guess we need government approval if we want to avoid fines or jail time. (Also: Be subject to the powers that be until he reigns whose right it is to reign.)

But you may mean, Do we need such approval in some ultimate moral or ontological sense?

More on all that later.

I feel like I'm in perpetual suspense. That's one of the joys of marriage. You always know there's more to come. Sometimes you know that joyfully, and sometimes you know it with dread. Fortunately, I know it joyfully in your case.
